The Door County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man and a woman suspected of being involved in purse snatching incidents in two counties. The couple was picked up Friday afternoon while camping at Potawatomi State Park, south of Sturgeon Bay. Officers from Door and Brown counties had been attempting to locate the individuals in connection with the theft of purses at stores in their jurisdictions. They believed the 44-year old man and 54-year old woman taken into custody were involved because of video available, including footage showing the theft of a purse in Brown county. Evidence connected to the thefts was reportedly found in their vehicle at the Southern Door campsite. On August 12th, a purse was stolen from a woman loading groceries at a Festival Foods store in the Green Bay area. Then, Thursday, a woman reported that her purse had been taken while she was shopping at the Econo Foods store in Sturgeon Bay. Authorities had video of the man buying a large amount of camping equipment at Sturgeon Bay’s Wal-Mart store. In addition, he reportedly used credit cards and the checkbook of the victim in Brown County to purchase items. Campers were told to be on the lookout for the couple and their vehicle. Sheriff Terry Vogel thanked citizens whose assistance led to the arrest of the suspects.
