In order to accommodate an anticipated large turnout, the Sturgeon Bay Plan Commission will hold its special meeting tonight in the high school auditorium. Beginning at 7:45PM, the committee will consider a proposed planned unit development for a hotel located on the former Door County Cooperative property at 92 East Maple Street. It’s previous meeting at city hall had to be called off because there were too many people on hand given the seats available and the fire chief had banned standing room only. Developer Bob Papke and his architect, Henry Isaksen, have made modifications to the original proposal, although the general concept is similar. Staff has provided several options for the plan commission to consider, from agreeing to the proposal and recommending approval of the planned unit development to denying the request and informing the city council and waterfront redevelopment authority that it wants a different plan for the site. That said, the city council makes the final determination on whether or not the project moves forward.
