Peterson Monument Taken Down

A monument that has stood at the end of 15th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay for decades has been dismantled. The aluminum structure, constructed at the request of the late Fred Peterson, founder of Peterson Builders, Incorporated, was placed at the site as a monument to Peterson’s first wife, Irene. However, plans for the parcel it sits on led to a decision to take down the monument & offer it to the City of Sturgeon Bay. The city’s park & recreation committee & board discussed the offer & decided that accepting the monument & placing it on city property would set a precedent that could lead to others wanting to place monuments on city property. It is unclear if the monument will be erected at another site.
