A new fishing pier will be constructed at Peninsula State Park near Fish Creek thanks to a $25,000 donation accepted by the State Natural Resources Board Wednesday in Madison. The Alan Rheinschmidt Foundation donated the funding which will pay for an accessible pier at the Nicolet Bay boat launch area. Rheinschmidt of Mosinee passed away in December. He was an avid outdoorsman whose passions were hunting & fishing. Rheinschmidt was also a strong supporter of disabled veterans & special olympics & his donation will assist the DNR in its mission of opening the outdoors to people with disabilities. The new accessible fishing pier will be placed at the end of the new breakwall extension located at Nicolet Bay. Besides the pier, the donation has the potential of providing a kayak that would be made available to the public at Peninsula State Park.
