Numbers Down for Gun Deer Opening Weekend

The Department of Natural Resources has released the tally of deer harvested in Door and Kewaunee County during the opening weekend of the nine day gun deer season, and the numbers are virtually the same as in 2013. The DNR says 654 bucks were taken, along with 426 antlerless deer, for a total of 1080 deer in Door County. Last year, a total of 1088 deer were harvested, including 638 bucks. In Kewaunee County, there were 509 bucks and 397 antlerless deer registered this year, a total of 906. The numbers from last year were slightly better for opening weekend with 516 bucks and 402 antlerless deer for a total of 918 in 2013. Statewide, 90,300 deer were registered during the opening weekend, an 18% decrease compared to 2013.
