The Sturgeon Bay Local Arts Board has just installed the city’s newest piece of public art, an aluminum sculpture titled “Crosswind Approach”. It now sits along the east waterfront promenade in front of the Stone Harbor Pub and Restaurant. This piece was created by Door/Brown County artist Steven Haas who is generously loaning it to the city. Haas says he named it “Crosswind Approach” since it is his vision of a bird landing in a crosswind, but the work is also known as “Pelican” since that is what many people see upon first sight. The piece remains for sale while it is on display by the city. Mr. Haas’s mobiles are featured at Sturgeon Bay’s Margaret Lockwood Gallery, while his sculptures are featured at the Edgewood Orchard Gallery, just north of Juddville.
