The US Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay played a role in the effort to get an injured man from a research vessel to medical facilities in Marinette Monday morning. The injured man was aboard the Sikuliaq, the recently constructed research ship being escorted through the ice by the Mobile Bay. The cutter based in Sturgeon Bay was able to break ice around the vessel which was about 200 feet from the dock. Coast guard crewmen then launched a smaller boat & picked up the injured party, providing medical care until he could be transferred to a waiting ambulance & the ride to the hospital in Marinette.
