Memorial Field Lights Need Replacing

The City Of Sturgeon Bay is considering ways on how best to pay for the replacement of the lights at Memorial Field. The poles installed in 1980 can no longer be worked on and an estimated replacement cost has been begged at $475,512.

During a recent meeting of the City’s Finance/Purchasing and Building Committee, discussion centered on a light replacement project. The consensus was that work would need to begin as soon as the last football game was completed, so that the fields were ready for baseball in the spring. At this point, grant writing is being used in an attempt to recover half the cost of the project. The rest of the funding could come from donations provided by several organizations. Outside funding is being sought for the light replacement project because the high cost of the needed work would be difficult for both the city and school district to take on.
