A Madison woman was extricated from rocks near the shoreline at Potawatomi State Park in southern Door County Wednesday evening. The Door County Sheriff’s Department, county EMS & Southern Door firefighters were paged out in connection with the report that a woman had been found on the rocks & an overturned kayak was nearby. The woman, 57-year old Lisa Hoon, was breathing, but unresponsive. She was placed on a flat board & carried up the shoreline. A witness said he was fishing when he saw a woman in the water, wedged between two large rocks near shore. The man pulled her from the water & called 911. Hoon eventually talked with authorities, but was unable to explain how she became disengaged from her kayak. It was later learned that the she is a paraplegic, but an experienced kayaker. Hoon reportedly left a cottage in Idlewild & was not wearing a life jacket. The investigating officer indicated in his report that the woman did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
