Another Door County literary legend has died. Keta Steebs passed away early Friday morning at her home in Sturgeon Bay two years shy of her 9th decade. Born in Iron River, Michigan in 1925, she celebrated her 88th birthday Wednesday with family & friends. Known for her columns in the Door County Advocate, Keta was also a reporter who covered a beat & produced individual stories for years. Her unique way of looking at things, writing style, turn of phrase, personal insights & humor brought her friends & recognition for decades. Keta’s annual column listing the best Door County had to offer in a variety of categories of her choosing was widely read & debated. Eventually, she was included in a list compiled by the Advocate of the 150 most influential people in the history of Door County. Last year, she joined other luminaries in the Milwaukee Press Club hall of fame. Keta moved to Sister Bay in 1955 where she & her beloved husband, Herman, operated a market. However, it wasn’t long & she was writing for a living, a vocation she continued until the day she died.
