The position of county administrator was reaffirmed and an interim administrator was appointed during the meeting of the Door County Board Tuesday. County Corporation Grant Thomas will fill the role of interim administrator until a replacement can be found. The position opened up when Maureen Murphy, who had held the job for two years, tendered her resignation. Murphy is now Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of Door County. This marks the second time that Thomas has been interim county administrator, having held the position for several months until Murphy was hired. In the meantime, county board chairman Dan Austad indicated that the position of county administrator would be evaluated from a number of perspectives before a search for a replacement begins in earnest. He noted that the entire process could take as long as a year. Door County has had a county administrator since January of 1999. Prior to that, then county clerk Nancy Bemmann was the county’s administrative coordinator.
