WDOR News has learned that one of the 28 individuals arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Northeast Wisconsin was picked up in the Baileys Harbor area. Three other individuals were taken into custody in Kewaunee County. All were farm workers. Agents working off lists of names conducted the 5-day sweep in more than a dozen cities over the weekend.
Typically, local law enforcement is not informed that the federal agency is about to make a sweep through a given area. According to a published report, I.C.E. agents noted that 26 of the illegal immigrants arrested had criminal records. More than 1 had illegally entered the United States after deportation.
