At one time, there was quite at bit of talk about plans to expand the animal shelter of the Door County Humane Society, just outside of Sturgeon Bay, near Cherryland Airport. However, the project was put on the “back burner” while the matter of how best to utilize the funds available was mulled over. Now it appears discussions may be coming to the forefront again. Fisher says expansion is needed because the animal population at the shelter continues to grow. The last count indicated that about 135 cats and kittens were making their home at the facility built in 1999.
