The picture is getting a little more clear with regard to a hotel proposed for the former Door County Cooperative property on the west side of Sturgeon Bay. Developer Bob Papke is proposing to build an 85 to 90 room boutique-style inn, with meeting rooms and a spa. Architect Henry Isaksen told the city plan commission that the hotel would occupy just under 18,000 square feet of the parcel, about half the size of the nearby Bridgeport Resort. The building would be five stories tall and would include a pool, exercise area, laundry and meeting facilities on the first floor. The hope is to have the motel completed by May of 2016. The proposal will be considered by the plan commission under the rules for a planned unit development.
