Sturgeon Bay City Engineer Tony Depies has released a progress report on the construction project at 8th Avenue & Egg Harbor Road. Depies says 40% of the utility work is complete, leaving some pole work on the South Side of Egg Harbor Road, some gas main to cross Egg Harbor Road, the removal of excess cable TV cable, & some underground AT&T wiring. Storm Sewer is about 75% complete, leaving the crossing of Egg Harbor road & the installation of two more catch basins. Construction of the storm pond has not yet begun & tree & stump removal is 60% complete.
Starting Monday, Egg Harbor Road will be closed for about ten days to allow for the installation of storm sewer & the safe completion of utility work by Wisconsin Public Service, AT&T, & Sturgeon Bay Utilities. Through traffic on Egg Harbor Road & Jefferson Street will be routed to use 12th Avenue & Georgia Street during the closure. It’s possible that Egg Harbor Road will reopen as a gravel road until paving in mid August.
An old water main in Egg Harbor Road will be abandoned & a temporary stop sign will be installed on Egg Harbor Road at Georgia Street until 8th Avenue construction is complete. The old sign, near the steel power pole, will be removed while the temporary stop sign is in place. Several other tasks remain to be done as part of the project. All of the stores in the corner depot will remain open through construction.
