A unattached garage & a boat nearby were destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon at the Brett Reetz home at 9,000 West Meadow Road, in Baileys Harbor. Baileys Harbor Fire Chief Brian Zak discovered the blaze at about 1:30PM. Zak said the garage was fully engulfed & the boat was just starting to burn as he walked up the driveway. Mutual aide was automatically called in & the Baileys Harbor Fire Department was joined by firefighters from Northern Door Fire Departments. In all, about 30 to 40 firemen fought the blaze. Chief Zak said a combination of water & foam was used to put out the fire & estimated that eight to ten thousand gallons of water was used during the firefighting operation. Fill sites were set up at the Baileys Harbor & Gibraltar fire stations. Zak says the fire is under investigation & no cause or damage estimate is available. Fire crews cleared the scene shortly before 5PM.
