Fincantieri Marinette Marine Awarded Navy Contract

Just across the bay of Green Bay, Fincantieri Marinette Marine was recently awarded a nearly $800 million contract to build the first-in-class guided missile frigate for the U.S. Navy, also with an option for another nine ships. The Department of Defense announced the contract yesterday afternoon following competition with several other U.S. shipyards. This contract offers Marinette Marine the option to build and deliver up to 10 ships total . It also includes post-delivery availability support, engineering and class services, crew familiarization, training equipment, and provisioned item orders. If all options of the contract are exercised, the total value of this contract will be $5.5 billion. Governor Tony Evers commended the U.S. Navy for their announcement and said, “This is great news, not only for the folks at Marinette Marine, but for the entire Marinette community and state economy.
