The History of the Washington Island Ferry Line will be the topic of discussion Sunday at Crossroads At Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. The Ferry Line’s Dick Purinton will present a program on the family-run transportation business at 2pm in the lecture hall at the Collins Learning Center as part of the “Sunday In The Village” series. Besides putting his mark on the history of the Island Ferry Line, Purinton has been a prolific and published writer who received the Award of Merit from the Wisconsin Historical Society for “Over And Back: A Picture History Of Transportation To Washington Island”. He also wrote “Words On Water: A Ferryman’s Journal” and “Bridges Are Still News: Island Essays, Poems And Photos”.
The Village At Crossroads will be open from 1:30 to 3:30pm and the Historical Society members will be offering tours to the building. Cookies will also be sold to help with village maintenance.
