Fatal Crash Tuesday Near Egg Harbor

There was a fatal crash near Egg Harbor Tuesday night. Just before 9:00 pm, a 9-1-1 call was made concerning the incident on Heritage Lake Road, just north of County Road E. A sheriff’s deputy was the first on scene when he found a 2002 Dodge pickup truck on fire with one of the vehicle’s occupants lying outside the truck. He began tending to the victim when small explosions were occurring from the truck so he moved the victim to a safer location. Once away from the truck he began to further assist the victim. The Egg Harbor Fire Department arrived at 9:07 pm and extinguished the fire. That’s when they discovered the vehicle’s 2nd occupant deceased in the truck. The surviving occupant was transported from the scene first by ambulance and then by helicopter to a Green Bay hospital. Also on the scene were Egg Harbor first responders, the Wisconsin DNR, And Door County EMS. An investigation of the death began with the Brown County Medical Examiner’s office. The initial investigation indicates the truck was northbound on Heritage Lake Road when the driver lost control, entered the west ditch, struck a large tree, and then a utility pole before coming to rest. The Wisconsin State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the incident, but it appears speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. We will report any further information on this incident as it becomes available.
