Executive Director Resigns From Humane Society

The Door County Humane Society has announced that its board of directors accepted the resignation of long-time director Carrie Counihan on Monday. Counihan has been the face of the shelter for over ten years. Board President Marilyn Jensen thanked Counihan for her hard work and dedication in helping the shelter flourish. Jensen said Carol Boudreau has accepted the position of interim director of the humane society and its shelter. Boudreau has been the shelter’s animal care coordinator since May of last year. Jensen says, while Counhan’s efforts have been appreciated, the organization has been successful because of the work of the many volunteers and the continuing support of the community. She says the focus will continue to be on caring for the animals at the shelter and the humane society will not skip a beat in doing so. Jensen says Counihan’s decision to move on will allow the board of directors to take a step back to consider how best to operate in the future. In the short term she believes the restructuring of staff eight months ago has put the humane society in a position to operate efficiently during this leadership transition.
