DOT’s Kantola Explains Collision

dotlogoThe Maple/Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay is open to vehicular and marine traffic after being struck by a barge shortly before 9am Friday morning. Mark Kantola of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation explains what happened…

Kantola says, all things considered, the damage was relatively light when the barge “Texas” struck the bridge which opened in 2008…

Kantola says bridge inspectors spent about two hours checking out the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge before deciding it could return to its normal operating procedures…

The D.O.T. is in the process of arranging for a construction crew to fix the damaged railing. A cost estimate is not available. Kantola says property damage to state-owned structures are typically the responsibility of the party causing the damage.
