As anticipated, the Department of Transportation in Green Bay has decided to move ahead with the construction of roundabouts in the Sturgeon Bay area on Highway 42/57 at the intersections of Michigan Street and Egg Harbor Road. Plans also call for full reconstruction of the existing two-lane roadway between the two intersections and a “right in/right out” only access to the highway at the Alabama Street intersection. Will Dorsey, the DOT’s Northeast Region Director, says the state agency has been studying the route since 1996 and, in 2010, entered into a memorandum of understanding with Door County and the City of Sturgeon Bay that recommended roundabouts…
Dorsey says cost was also a factor in the decision-making…
According to Dorsey, more needs to be done before work commences…
The Sturgeon Bay road project featuring roundabouts is expected to begin in the fall of 2015.
