The Door County YMCA has been awarded an $800 grant to support young women participating in the 2014/2015 Youth in Government program. The funding comes from the Women’s Fund of Door County. Guided by teachers and volunteers, Youth in Government educates students about the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government, encourages lifelong responsible citizenship, and, gives teens the opportunity to learn firsthand about the lawmaking process. The program builds self confidence in youth through opportunities to engage in public speaking and interact with their peers throughout the state each February when thousands of students descend upon the state capital to present bills, try cases and, in the process, create lifelong friendships.
