Door County to Participate in Fiber Optics Project

Door County will participate in a fiber optics project N-Sight/Cellcom plans to build and maintain from Brown County through Door County. The system, comprised of a high speed broadband fiber optic network will offer access to data of all sorts, increased communications capacity and speed, and, redundancy. Supporters of the project say participating in the fiber optic network will improve Door County’s communications infrastructure and be more economically efficient than a go-it alone approach. The cost of connecting all Door County facilities, including tower sites in the northern and southern Door County locations, has been pegged at just over $1.2 million in 2015, a little less than $749,000 in 2016 and a few hundred dollars short of a half a million dollars in 2017. The finance committee was tasked with finding a funding mechanism to pay for Door County’s participation in the fiber optics network.
