The Door County Visitor Bureau is inviting residents and visitors to drop off new or gently used coats, sweaters, mittens and other warm clothing as part of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s “The Big Bundle Up” campaign. The statewide collection program runs through January 2nd. All locally donated items will be distributed back to Door County residents in need. This is the fourth year of the program. To date, the statewide initiative has collected more than 32,000 winter items, including more than 1,400 items in Door County alone. Ten different Door County tourism organizations have committed to participate in this year’s warm weather clothing drive. The organizations include the Door County Visitor Bureau, Door County north, and, visitor centers or associations in Baileys Harbor, Carlsville, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay, and, Sturgeon Bay. A container will be located at participating locations for donors to drop off new or gently used clothing items. Last year, 662 clothing items were collected in Door County. The goal in 2014 is 700 items. Statewide, the hope is to top the more than 11,000 winter clothing items donated in 2013.
