His first name was Jennings, but most people knew him by his nickname “Jocko.” Jocko Rader of Sturgeon Bay passed away in Green Bay on Monday, at the age of 87. His life, work and varied interests touched many people in many ways. Jocko excelled in sports at Sturgeon Bay High School where he graduated in 1951. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a barber in the 1960’s, and an insurance agent for more than 40 years at Stoneman Schopf Insurance, where he was recognized with numerous awards. Jocko’s love of baseball led him to the Door County League and induction into the Door County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He also served the league in several capacities. When he wasn’t involved in baseball, he was on the golf course and his love of that sport led to the creation of numerous leagues and tournaments, a newspaper column, and a program on WDOR. Beyond that, Jocko Rader served his community, his clients and his church. And, above all, he was a Door County original.
