A trend seen statewide was repeated in Door County during the recent nine day gun deer season. The number of deer harvested in the county was up by a little more than 100, based on preliminary figures supplied by the Department of Natural Resources. A total of 2,036 deer were registered in Door County in 2011. Of that number, 1,113 bucks& 923 antlerless deer were killed during the hunt. That compares to 1,016 bucks & 915 antlerless deer taken last year. The Door County harvest was up about 5% overall, better than the statewide average of 3.6%. A total of 226,260 deer were harvested in Wisconsin this year. That’s about 8,000 more than last year & 24,000 more than 2009.
