Door Community Child Development Center in Old Barker Center

Sturgeon Bay’s Barker Child Development Center closed temporarily in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and then permanently at the beginning of July. Now the Door County Medical Center has announced that in the former location of the Barker Center, the need for a primary childcare facility will be met with the new Door Community Child Development Center. The quick reopening of this facility is the result of weeks of hard work by Alexis Fuller, the Barker Center’s former Director, and the combined efforts of the Door County Medical Center and the Sturgeon Bay YMCA. The former Barker Center building, which is owned by the YMCA, will now be leased by the Door County Medical Center. Child Development Administrator Joanna Severinsen says most of the Center’s programming will remain the same…..

Child care rates for the new center will be competitive with other childcare centers in Door, Brown, and Kewaunee Counties. Also, along with state subsidies, a scholarship fund is being established to assist families with tuition costs. Severinsen says she’s excited and ready to have the center rejoin the community……

The new child care center plans to begin services starting September 7th, and enrollment begins August 10th. They will be open 5 days a week from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm, providing childcare to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Parents can now add their names to a waiting list through a link on the medical center’s website at “dcmedical.org”.
