“Door 2 Door Rides”, which is Door County’s first public transit service, gave it’s first official ride on August 10th of 2010, almost ten years ago. Since then, they have provided over 360,000 rides with an average of well over 3,000 rides per month. When the service started in 2010, it was limited to a 3-mile radius within Sturgeon Bay. Their fleet consisted of just 2 wheelchair accessible vans. Since then, they have expanded their service area to include everywhere from Northport to the county’s southern border. They now have 6 wheelchair-accessible 3-passenger vans and 2 ambulatory 7-passenger vans. Door County Transportation Manager Pam Busch says, “Door 2 Door has grown significantly in the last 10 years. Even with a decrease this year due to COVID-19, Door 2 Door provided almost 16,000 trips by the end of June. We are starting to see ridership increase and drivers are working hard to ensure the vehicles are safe for riders.
