The Wisconsin Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus recently awarded its 2014 Wisconsin Tourism Trailblazer award to the Door County Visitor Bureau for its Power Up-Wind Down marketing campaign. The county tourism agency created relax and recharge stations where people could rest in adirondack chairs in front of scenic Door County images and videos while recharging their electronic devices. The stations were placed in popular Milwaukee and Madison shopping malls last spring and included a mobile contest where people could text to win a free Door County getaway. An estimated four million potential visitors saw the charging stations at the malls, over 1,000 texted to win 25 different mini-vacations, and, more than 2,500 visitor guides were distributed between the two stations in Milwaukee and Madison. The Door County Visitor Bureau has previously won tourism trailblazer awards in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
