DC Seatbelt Enforcement Report

Sturgeon Bay Police and The Door County Sheriff’s Department have completed the 2nd month of participation in the 2012 Seatbelt Task Force Deployments. According to Sturgeon Bay Police Sargeant Chad Hougaard, there were 5 deployments in June. A total of 216 traffic stops were made during the deployments. Of the of 174 traffic citations handed out, 133 were for seatbelt violations, 9 for speeding, 2 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, 1 for failing to have a registered vehicle, and 30 for miscellaneous reasons.

Lieutenant Jeff Farley said 86 traffic warnings were issued last month including 56 for speeding, 6 for vehicle registration violations, 9 for vehicle equipment, and 15 for miscellaneous violations.

The deployments are funded by a grant from the state DOT. Door County is 1 of 4 counties in the state and the only one in Northeast Wisconsin to have received the pilot grant.
