Dan’s Fish Releases Statement on Investigation

While state and federal law enforcement agencies are not commenting on an investigation in Door County, Dan’s Fish, Incorporated in Sturgeon Bay says it is cooperating with authorities. The local firm was visited at its Jib Street location on Wednesday by investigators from the Department of Natural Resources. Support was requested from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department while the local company was visited, but the department is not an active participant in the investigation. The statement issued Thursday from Dan’s Fish notes that the firm learned it may become part of an investigation by the Department of Natural Resources involving scores of companies in three states of potential violations of regulatory issues. The company says it has always openly and honestly conducted its business and is in full compliance with all state and federal laws. The news release indicates that company President Dan Schwarz assured the DNR that the firm will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation and said no local restaurant or wholesale buyer is part of the regulatory issue. It has been reported that the focus of the investigation is on the commercial fishing industry. Dan’s Fish supplies 90% of the fish sold at restaurants in Door County. It has national and international clients.
