Council Rejects Committee Recommendation of Stop Sign Removal

The Sturgeon Bay city council turned down a recommendation from the parking & traffic committee to remove stop signs from Joliet Avenue at Juniper Street. The vote was six to one with only Ron Vandertie agreeing with the committee that the signs should go. Bob Schlicht began the discussion saying that he had changed his mind on the issue. He gave a little history showing that the signs were initially installed in 1987 as a test to resolve speeding problems. He noted concern for schools & churches along with Otumba Park all close to the intersection. John Lodl & Danny Wiegand also spoke in opposition to the removal of the stop signs.
