A Door County judge bound 35 year old Brian Cooper of Plainfield, Illinois to stand trial on two counts of first degree intentional homicide & one count of third degree sexual assault in Door County Circuit Court Tuesday. Judge D. Todd Ehlers set Cooper’s next court date for September 20th. At that time, the Illinois man will enter a plea in connection with the deaths of 21 year old Alisha Bromfield, also of Plainfield, Illinois, & her unborn child. Bromfield was more than six months pregnant at the time of her death. Cooper is also accused of having sex with her corpse. The only witness called by District Attorney Ray Pelrine was Door County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Mark Winkel. Winkel described the events that led to Cooper’s arrest on August 19th, the recovery of Bromfield’s body in a room at a resort in the Town of Nasewaupee, Cooper’s account of the circumstances that led to Bromfield’s passing, an autopsy that confirmed the cause of her death & the fact that she was pregnant when she died. Court documents indicate that Cooper strangled Bromfield after she indicated she had no desire to have a relationship with him. The couple were in Door County to attend the wedding of Cooper’s sister. Brian Cooper is being represented by Green Bay attorney Shane Brabazon.
