Cooper Pleads Not Guilty

Not guilty pleas were entered in Door County Circuit Court Thursday on behalf of a 35 year old Illinois man charged with two counts of first degree intentional homicide & one count of third degree sexual assault. Brian Cooper of Plainfield, Illinois appeared before Judge D. Todd Ehlers with his attorney Shane Brabazon of Green Bay. Judge Ehlers set the next court date for January 28th. District Attorney Ray Pelrine estimated that the trial could take a week to complete. In the meantime, Brabazon is requesting a change of venue. A hearing date for arguments on that matter has yet to be determined. Cooper is accused in the deaths of 21 year old Alisha Bromfield, also of Plainfield, & her unborn child at a Town of Nasewaupee resort on August 19th. Bromfield was more than 6 months pregnant at the time of her death. Cooper is also accused of having sex with her corpse. Court documents indicate that the Illinois man strangled Bromfield after she indicated she had no desire to have a relationship with him. The couple were in Door County to attend the wedding of Cooper’s sister.
