Cooper Case Continues

The Door County Sheriff’s Department continues to evaluate evidence developed in its investigation into the deaths of a 21 year-old Illinois woman and her unborn child at a southern Door County resort last weekend. Sheriff Terry Vogel says Chief Deputy Gary Behling ans Sergeant Tom Lemke went to the home of murder suspect Brian Cooper in Plainfield, Illinois, executing search warrants obtained from courts in Wisconsin and Illinois. The 35 year-old Cooper, currently in the Door County Jail on $1,000,000 bond, could be charged with 2 counts of first degree intentional homicide and 1 count of first degree sexual assault.

Cooper had been under suicide watch at teh Door County Jail after he told investigators that he tried to kill himself following the death of Alisha Bromfield, but that is no longer the case. Under questioning, Cooper reportedly sais he tried to commit suicide by using a butter knife and a corkscrew and by drowning, but couldn’t follow through with any of the attempts. While Cooper has been segregated from other inmates at the county jail, plans are to integrate him into the jail population.
