City Woman Avoids Prison on Reckless Homicide Charge

A Door County woman, 29 year old Andrea Esther of Sturgeon Bay, avoided three years in prison & ten years of extended supervision in Door County Court Monday on charges of first degree reckless homicide & possession of marijuana. Esther had been accused of supplying the drug that led to the death of her friend, 49 year old Demetrius Moya last October. Moya’s lifeless body was found in his Sturgeon Bay apartment the day after Esther gave him oxymorphone, which he ground up & snorted. Judge Peter Diltz stayed the prison sentence, placed her on ten years probation & ordered Esther to serve a year in the county jail. She was also fined $500 & costs on each of two counts, must provide 100 hours of community service, maintain full employment & absolute sobriety, may not possess drug paraphernalia or controlled substances without a valid prescription & may not have contact with known drug users or dealers. Charges of possession of drug paraphernalia & illegally obtained prescription drugs were dropped prior to sentencing.
