City Approves Environmental Study on Old Co-op Site

The City of Sturgeon Bay took another step in the process of acquiring the former Door County Cooperative property on the west side of the city, when the city council approved an environmental analysis for the site during its meeting Tuesday evening. The city is seeking a community development block grant of as much as $500,000 to assist with acquisition of the site & demolition of some buildings on it. However, a requirement of the grant is to conduct an environmental analysis of the site. The council action means that AECOM Technical Services of Oshkosh will conduct the environmental site study for $3,500 & apply for grant funding that, if approved, would cover 50% of the cost. The hope is that AECOM can get the work completed in December in order to keep the larger grant process moving along.
