Action on the State level has led to the release of $161,843 for a project to update & expand the terminal at the Cherryland Airport near Sturgeon Bay. Door County is contributing $311,842 & the Federal Aviation Administration $450,000. The initial project estimate of $773,685 fell $150,000 short of the bid that came in. Hence, the Door County Board decision last month to provide the additional dollars to complete the project. The plan is to pay back the $150,000 County investment with future federal grant funding. The work at the terminal building will renovate & expand the existing structure estimated to be over 30 years old. The work will include the installation of insulation & energy efficient windows. The building will also be brought up to Americans With Disabilities Act standards. In addition, a 2100 square foot addition to the structure will provide space for training & meetings. The project is expected to be completed during the Summer of 2012.
