Unless there is a write in candidate there will not be any contests in the spring election for Sturgeon Bay Mayor or City Council. Mayor Thad Birmingham will be the only name on the ballot as he seeks a second term.
For membership on the City Council, there will be one new name, Ed Ireland will replace John Lodl from district 3. In the re-zoning a couple of years ago, Lodl’s home was changed from one district to another & he therefore could not seek re-election. In his place, Ed Ireland will be on the ballot for district 3. The other three council members who have expiring terms this year will all be on the ballot for another term, Danny Wiegand in district 1, Joe Stutting in district 5 & Bob Schlicht in district 7.
There are two seats up for election on the Southern Door Board of Education. With only three names on the ballot there will not be a primary. Dustin Miller is not seeking another term while Steve Bretl is. The others who filed nomination papers for the board are Del Schmelzer & Heidi Gutschow.
At Sevastopol, there are two seats up for election & the two current board members will be the only names on the ballot. Richard Weidman & Mark Herrel have both been school board members since 2007.
In Sturgeon Bay the story is the same, except there are three who are seeking another term, Pam Seiler, Jacob Schulz & Roger Wood.
There will be a contest for the Washington Island School Board. Two seats are up for election & there will be three names on the ballot. The incumbents seeking another term are Amy Jorgenson & Kirsten Purinton, the other candidate is Tom Jordan.
Gibraltar is another district where there will be no contests. Two incumbents are seeking another term, Suzanne Brennan & Mike Peot, & there are no other candidates on the ballot.
The spring election will be April 2nd.
