WDOR News has learned that Gene Caldwell, Vice-Pesident & General Manager at Bay Shipbuilding, has left the firm in Sturgeon Bay. Caldwell, who took over at the shipyard in Sturgeon Bay a little more than two years ago, stepped down Monday, reportedly for “personal reasons.” Just last week, he attended the kickoff celebration for the United Way of Door County. In the interim, Todd Thayse, Bay Ship’s Director of Contract Services, has assumed the duties of Acting Vice-President & General Manager. It is unclear if Caldwell’s departure will lead to other changes. Bay Shipbuilding & its sister shipyard, Marinette Marine, are owned by Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri Marine Group.
