A recommendation on a detour route expected to funnel traffic through the City of Sturgeon Bay for three months while work is done on the Bayview Bridge in 2013 will come before the city council Tuesday night during its regular meeting. The parking & traffic committee resolution is the outgrowth of several meetings involving the department of transportation & including citizen input. With two exceptions, the recommendation mirrors the detour developed by the DOT. The committee decided that stop signs should remain in place at the corner of 3rd Avenue & Michigan Street & did not support the idea of making south 3rd Avenue one-way from Michigan to Oregon Street. If approved, the detour would take motorists coming from south of Sturgeon Bay down Madison Avenue, across the Michigan Street Bridge, down Michigan Street to Highway 42/57. Those coming from the north would turn onto Egg Harbor Road, travel across Jefferson Street to 3rd Avenue to Michigan Street & across the Michigan Street Bridge to the Madison Avenue & back to Highway 42/57 on Green Bay Road.
