Bayside Cemetery Chapel Rededicated

A small building that has been a fixture at Bayside Cemetery near Sturgeon Bay for nearly 60 years was rededicated during a short ceremony Tuesday afternoon. A small, but hardy, group braved the elements during a flag raising and the sounding of “taps” before moving into the Pittenger Chapel for the rededication. The original chapel was built in 1957 was funded by George Pittenger, a frequent visitor to Door County. Over the years, improvements to the building included a new roof and furnace, updates to the exterior and interior and the creation of an office. Bob Papke, a member of the Bayside Cemetery Board of Trustees, says a number of improvements were completed during the last year…

Papke says the services provided at Bayside Cemetery cover the costs of the day-to-day operation…

Those who’d like to donate to the fund are encouraged to contact Bret Bicoy at the Door County Community Foundation. Leo Zipperer, President of the Board of Trustees, acted as master of ceremonies and offered a historical perspective to the life of the chapel, the invocation was provided by the Reverend Paul Graf, Bishop of the Moravian Church, the flag-raising ceremony and “taps” was done by VFW Post 3088.
