Baileys Harbor Votes to Purchase Nelsons Property

Tuesday night was the Town of Baileys Harbor annual meeting where the town residents were able to vote on whether or not the town will purchase the old Nelson’s Hardward store property next to the marina. The final vote resulted in 255 resident in favor of the purchase and 32 against, so 89% of the town residents voted in favor of the purchase. Town Chair Dave Eliot says the turnout and the results were very encouraging…..

The purchase price for that property is $1.95 miliion, but ongoing funding operations have reportedly raised over $496,000 so far towards that purchase price. Eliot says once that amount reaches the $500,000 mark an anonymous donor has agreed to match every dollar after the $500,000 mark up to another $250,000. Their goal is to raise $1.1 million towards the purchase, and the town is also working on grant applications to further offset the cost to taxpayers.
