Authorities Find Distraught Man After Overnight Search

A 67-year old northern Door County man, the subject of a search Thursday evening, was taken into custody Friday morning near his home. The Door County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics team was called out to search for the county man said to be distraught and carrying a handgun. At 5:41PM, a 911 call to the county communications center indicated that he was intoxicated and had made suicidal statements before firing a handgun and walking into the woods near Monument Point Road, in the Town of Egg Harbor. While it was believed the man was not a threat to anyone else, neighbors were told to stay inside their homes. A K9 unit from the Manitowoc Sheriff’s Department was called in and additional deputies joined the search which covered several hours. For a time, a segment of Monument Point Road west of Highway 42, was closed to traffic. The arrest was made without incident. Door County Chief Deputy Gary Behling thanked all of the individuals and agencies that participated in the search. He said the police report would be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for possible charges.
