An arraignment date of Monday, February 20th has been set for a 33 year old Southern Door County woman charged with child neglect & homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in connection with the death of her eight month old daughter last October. Judge D. Todd Ehlers set the arraignment date for Melissa Martinez of Brussels during a hearing in Door County circuit court Thursday. Green Bay defense attorney Jeffrey Jazgar asked for time to gather her treatment records in order to determine what the next course of action should be. Martinez is currently living in a halfway house after having completed treatment for alcohol abuse. She is accused of leaving her daughter, Elena, in a vehicle that was running with the heat on for several hours. Tests indicated that she was a healthy child & had died from hyperthermia caused by being in the heated vehicle for an extended period of time.
