Motorists in Sturgeon Bay got their first taste of how it can be when all three bridges in the city are closed to traffic Thursday morning. That happened shortly before 11am when the tug boat “Samuel Champlain” passed by the bridges, breaking ice, on its way from Bay Shipbuilding to Lake Michigan.
With the Bayview Bridge under construction for the next 4 months, drivers have two other alternatives for traveling from one side of the city to the other. However, boat traffic takes precedence an that can tie up the bridges from time to time.
Winter sports enthusiasts are being reminded that ice conditions in the Sturgeon Bay Shipping Channel are dangerous in spots.
