A new six-hole short course at Peninsula State Park near Fish Creek could become a reality if a proposed variance to the park’s master plan is approved. The mini-course, as envisioned, would provide a realistic golf learning experience for individuals, regardless of age, skill or ability, to learn the game of golf. Kelli Bruns, superintendent at the state park, says the proposed development would compliment the already existing practice area at Peninsula that includes a driving range, a chipping & putting green & a sand bunker. Beginners could practice at the site before progressing to the regulation 9 or 18-hole course. The project parcel is about five acres in size & is bordered by Highway 42 & Holand Road. The estimated cost to build the mini course is up to a half a million dollars with the Peninsula Golf Associates & private donors providing the needed revenue.
