30th Annual Classic & Wooden Boat Festival Summary

This last weekend was the 30th annual Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. After last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic, the festival’s return this year was met with perfect weather as Sturgeon Bay’s Maritime Week drew to a close. Museum Deputy Director Sam Perlman tells us the entire festival went very well…..

With about 50 boats participating in the boat show, there were many Skipper’s Choice Recognition Awards handed out to many boats owners from Wisconsin and Minnesota. A “Best of Show” award went to “Garwood Jr.”, A 1949 Garform owned by Jeff and Renee Davey from Berlin, WI. Then the “People’s Choice Boat of the Year” award went to a 1935 Burger Crocker Stonehouse named “Splash” owned by Kurt Breuer and family from Marinette. Sunday there were tours given of the US Coast Guard Cutter “Mobile Bay”, and Perlman says this also gave many attendees a good view of the new west waterfront promenade……

The “Sika-flex” Build-a-Boat Challenge and sea-trials event drew many spectators, as usual, to the waterfront to witness this year’s 7 contestants race their creations through the course. Event organizers are already looking forward to next year’s festival.
