Camper Fire Overnight in Southern Door County

An emergency call was made early Tuesday morning for a camper trailer on fire in the Town of Clay Banks. The call came in at 12:30AM from near the intersection of County J and County U. As a structure fire, this initiated a MABAS call for assistance from the fire departments of Brussels-Union-Gardner, Nasewaupee, Sturgeon Bay, Algoma, and Casco. Southern Door Fire Chief Rich Olson explains the story with this camper and which fire departments’ assistance were canceled…

The Southern Door Fire Department had 5 trucks and 14 firefighters respond to the scene, and they used about 3,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. The camper was a total loss, and there was not enough left of the camper remaining to determine a cause of the fire. Fire Chief Olson then shared a difficulty in the initial reporting of this fire…

Both unsuccessful 911 calls were made through the Cellcom phone service which has been experiencing varying degrees of a service outage over the last 2 weeks.
The camper fire was extinguished and all vehicles were able to clear the scene in approximately one hour, and there were no injuries reported in the response.
