An emergency call was made early Tuesday morning for a camper trailer on fire in the Town of Clay Banks. The call came in at 12:30AM from near the intersection of County J and County U. As a structure fire, this initiated a MABAS call for assistance from the fire departments of Brussels-Union-Gardner, Nasewaupee, Sturgeon Bay, Algoma, and Casco. The Southern Door Fire Department had 5 trucks and 14 firefighters respond to the scene, and they used about 3,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. Both unsuccessful 911 calls were made through the Cellcom phone service which has been experiencing varying degrees of a service outage over the last 2 weeks.
The camper fire was extinguished and all vehicles were able to clear the scene in approximately one hour, and there were no injuries reported in the response.
